Finding a Hotel in Livigno with a Spa

Finding a hotel in Livigno with a spa shouldn't be all that difficult. There are in fact several establishments in Livigno and the surrounding area that feature spa facilities. A few of these advertise themselves as wellness hotels, mentioning their spa facilities as somewhat as an afterthought.

If you Google “Hotel Livigno Spa”, you will discover that the search is not always going to be a great deal of help. A hotel with a hot tub or a Jacuzzi can claim to feature a spa and end up as a page-one search result. If you ask a travel agent to book you into a hotel in Livigno with a spa, you might get the same result – a nice hotel that features a hot tub and a Jacuzzi. It's the same when your search is for a Livigno mountain resort hotel or a Livigno ski resort hotel with spa. With luck you might end up in a hotel that not only has a hot tub and a Jacuzzi, but an outdoor pool as well, which unfortunately is closed during the ski season.

There is an establishment that is all of these things. It is a hotel in Livigno with a spa and it is also a mountain resort. You can save yourself, and your travel agent, a lot of time and trouble if you simply asked to be booked into the Charme Hotel Alexander. Not only will you be reserving a room in a hotel in Livigno with a spa, you will be booked in to an excellent hotel with one of the finest, if not the finest spa facilities in Livigno, within the Livigno Ski Resort and for that matter the entire Alta Valtellina ski area with its 885 ski runs and 33 ski lifts.

Charme Hotel Alexander is actually located in Teola, a tiny village that is but a stone's throw from Livigno and the town's duty-free shopping. The hotel is also within walking distance of the nearest ski lifts. Most of the hotels in the Livigno and Teola areas share this distinction, but it's always nice to know that when going to and from the nearest lift line you don't have to hike a mile (or a kilometer), or wait 30 minutes for a shuttle bus to take you to where you  want to go.

You can swim or relax in the indoor pool or take advantage of what the full-service spa has to offer. The 4-star Charme Hotel Alexander actually has two indoor pools, but one is reserved for children. You can also spend time relaxing in the Turkish bath, the health club, or in the sauna.

Should you choose to venture outside, which is presumably why you came, you can sharpen or display your skills at skiing (cross-country and alpine), snowboarding, snowmobiling, mountain biking, and golf, depending of course on the season.

Although the focus has been on a hotel in Livigno with a spa, there are times when health and fitness are not on your mind, which is often the case in a fine hotel located in a destination resort area, and you wish to spend some time in the lounge and the bar. You also have access to flat-screen, satellite TV and the Internet in your room.

There are many fine hotels in the Livigno resort area. Many of them have health and fitness facilities of one kind or another, but few have spa facilities worth mentioning. There are some to be found, but if you book into the Charme Hotel Alexander, your search for a hotel in Livigno with a spa will be over, and it won't be long before you will be convinced you made the best possible choice.

Pros and Cons of Renting Ski Apartments in Livigno

If you have decided on the Livigno ski resort as your destination during the ski season, and you will be arriving as a family or as a small party of friends, choosing among the many ski apartments in Livigno that are available often makes a good deal of sense. In addition to apartments, a number of villas and chalets are available as well. Many if not most of the apartments available can accommodate groups of up to six or eight.

Most of these units are available the year around, but when you have skiing in mind you would naturally want to find something in proximity with the lift lines. In Livigno, that is rarely a problem. You can stay in an apartment in the center of town, and still be within walking distance of most of the ski resort's lift lines.

Look for One in the Center of Town

In fact, by staying in town you can have the best of both worlds. You'll also be within walking distance of a good number of restaurants, bars, and the duty-free shops that Livigno is noted for. If the land was flat, you could even take a day hike over to Switzerland, but the land is not flat at all. You would have to climb half of the way and ski downhill the other half.

Expensive, But Not For a Group

Apartments tend to cost significantly more than hotel rooms or bed and breakfasts, plus the fact that you have to go out to eat or make your own breakfasts. Some apartments may feature continental breakfasts, but that would be a rarity. You can expect to pay at least $150 per night for an apartment, but the nicer ones tend to charge four or five times that amount. While renting an apartment can make a great deal of sense for a family vacation, the higher-priced units can be out of reach for some families. On the other hand, when a group of friends share an apartment, and everyone pays their fair share, it can be surprisingly affordable.

Renting an apartment as a group can be even more affordable as some ski apartments offer free lift tickets or lift tickets at a significant discount if you choose to stay there. Some even offer discounts on rental equipment and lessons. Even if those discounts are no more than 15 to 20 percent, they still represent a considerable savings. If you plan to book one of the ski apartments in Livigno, it could be to your advantage to see what extras might be included in the deal.

Some Restrictions Apply, But Not Many
As is the case with most apartment rentals, some allow pets and others do not. This is seldom an issue with ski vacationers as they usually have enough to bring along without taking along the pet poodle as well. Most allow children, or in other words are family friendly. A few will require a stay of at least several days, but there are ski apartments that rent out for as few as one or two days. As far as how long you can book an apartment for, about the only issue is whether or not another party has booked reservations for the same apartment in the near future. This can usually be settled during booking time however so it is seldom a problem unless you have your heart set on a particular unit (most often for reasons of nostalgia).

When you book, make certain you will be given detailed information as to what features the apartment has to offer. A fireplace is nice, but even nicer is a kitchen that is well stocked with appliances such as a microwave, toaster, freezer, and of course an Italian coffee making machine. Towels and linens are almost always provided. TV is standard. In Livigno, this would be satellite TV. You might want to inquire about Wi-Fi if you can't bear to be without your laptop or tablet.

Or, you can just book sight unseen, go with the flow, and focus on skiing.
