Stuck choosing the right Ski Accommodation? Here’s how to choose!

Sometimes choosing the right ski accommodation can be quite difficult with so many options available. If you’re heading to Livigno for that once in a lifetime ski trip, here’s our handy guide on how to choose the right accommodation for you! You can get anything from self-catered chalets, hotels, ski apartments, chalet hotels and club hotels, hostels and even B&B’s.

1.Are you a group of friends, a family or beginners?

The ideal type of accommodation for you is a catered chalet. The reason for this is that they come with somebody to cook and clean, which can be a dream if you’re a group of friends or a family, so you don’t have to start doing the housework and cooking as well while you’re trying to relax. If you’re a sociable bunch, then these catered chalets will be perfect. Just remember that you don’t normally have the entire chalet to yourself, as you book the number of rooms that you need. Also dining areas and living areas are normally communal, so you could be passing amongst strangers whilst you’re on your way to breakfast. If you’re sociable and looking to meet new people, this is perfect. If you like your privacy, then this might not be the option for you.

2.Are you a couple or a small group of skiers who don’t want to share accommodation?

In this case, a hotel is the best option for you. There are plenty hotels available in Livigno and one of them that really stands out for its location, cleanliness, fine dining and spa is the Alexander Charme Hotel. Take a look at their website and you can see what’s on offer. They’re a four star hotel with plenty amenities and great service. If you’re a big group, then a hotel isn’t really the right option for you.

3.Are you a family or a smaller group that doesn’t mind cooking?

The ideal accommodation here is Ski Apartments Livigno. A lot of the ski apartments are upmarket and fully equipped for a self-catering vacation. The Alexander Charme Hotel has got plenty ski apartments, Livigno and they have everything you could need including bed linen, towels, crockery and cutlery, satellite TV, central heating, a dishwasher, hairdryer, microwave and coffee machine. You couldn’t really ask for more than that. They sleep anywhere from 2 people to 8 people, so there’s a lot of choice.

There are plenty of apartments available to choose from and they’re all centrally located for easy access to the town, ski slopes and buses too. One of the chalets also has a lift for easy access for the disabled.

4.Are you a smaller group or a couple?

Here a Bed and Breakfast could be the solution for you or even ski apartments, Livigno . Look for B & B’s and ski apartments that has a bit of charm and character and you could also immerse yourself in some of the local culture.

5.Are you teens or twenty something’s?

You might be traveling on a tight budget, and the ideal type of accommodation could be a hostel where you’ll be living in a dorm-based environment. So to make that budget stretch far, look for great hostels in Livigno. If you’re part of young group, then all you really need is a place to wash, sleep, eat and store your gear, so this is perfect.

As mentioned earlier, it can be tough deciding on where to stay when you’re heading to Livigno, but if you follow this advice, you should be able to find the perfect accommodation to suit you, which means a happier vacation, that’s right for your budget and your needs.

One of the hotels that really stood out was the Alexander Charme Hotel. They’ve got great ski apartments, with so much to choose from. They’ve got all that you could need. They’re centrally located for easy access to the town, ski slopes and buses too.

Why not Stay at a Wellness Hotel in Livigno?

It's not at all difficult to find a wellness hotel in Livigno since there are a number of them that have having good wellness or fitness facilities. If you choose, you can book a wellness hotel away from the hustle and bustle of the town. There are a number of those as well, but since distances are rather small in the area, there is not a great deal of difference between being near the town and being in it. If you want to be somewhat removed from the hustle and bustle you'll find in the center of town, there is an excellent wellness hotel located just a stone's throw from Livigno. You'll find this hotel in Teola, a small village just across the river from Livigno, but still in the heart of the resort area. The hotel is the Charme Hotel Alexander, an establishment in which you will definitely experience the feeling of staying in a mountain retreat.

Livigno does experience its share of hustle and bustle, even though it is a rather small town. Duty-free shopping is one reason. Another is that a number of lift lines are within walking distance of the city center. You won't feel completely isolated though. Downtown Livigno is only a short distance away and chair lifts and cable cars are close by in Teola as well..

Charme Hotel Alexander

This attractive, Tyrolean-style hotel looks from the outside as if it had been transported part and parcel from Austria or Bavaria. Its architectural style is not all that uncommon in this part of Italy however, since it lies in what is also known by some as the South Tyrol, a region that was, up to the end of World War I, a part of the Austria-Hungarian empire. You are more likely interested in the facilities available in the interior of the building if wellness is on your mind. The Charme Alexander features an excellent wellness facility as compared to most other hotels in and around Livigno.  A free shuttle service departs every 5 minute to take you to Livigno and/or the cable car lifts in the resort area. Every room features a heated room in which to check your ski gear at the end of the day. The Charme Alexander has  received many excellent reviews, so when you feel it's about time to plan a visit to the Livigno ski resort area it's worth placing high on your list. You won't be disappointed.

Compare before You Decide

It's all right if you want to compare the Charme Hotel Alexander to other wellness hotels in Livigno before you book a room. There aren't all that many that can live up to the claim of being a true wellness hotel, as the health and fitness and spa facilities in most of these hotels is modest at most. You really want to look at the entire package, which of course include the rooms, the meals, other features, and customer satisfaction. You will find what you want in the Charme Alexander as far as satisfying the needs of your body and your mind is concerned. When you're not attending to the health and well-being of your body, you can focus on hitting the slopes, venturing into town for some duty-free shopping, or just enjoying the coziness and comfort of your room.

Other Features of the Charme Alexander

Yes, this is indeed an excellent place to spend your time while skiing in the Livigno resort are, or hiking, trekking, or mountain biking during the summer season. The rooms are well-appointed, the beds are super-comfortable, and the food is excellent. The breakfasts can be summed up in two words – super amazing!

Are You Looking for a Livigno Hotel with Wellness Facilities?

If, in your search for accommodations, you happen to be looking for a Livigno hotel with wellness facilities, you'll find a fairly large number of these hotels to choose from in the ski resort area. There are at least 20 hotels in the area, and possibly more, that feature a wellness facility or center of one type or another. Not every Livigno hotel with a wellness center will have a full set of wellness features; in fact the majority of them do not. Nevertheless you'll find pools, saunas or steam rooms to be fairly common.

Charme Hotel Alexander

Given there are a number of hotels to choose from, although that number is not large, there is one Livigno hotel with wellness facilities that has a great deal to offer, the Charme Hotel Alexander. In addition to its wellness facilities, this hotel, which is located in Teola, just a few minutes by shuttle from Livigno, has the reputation of being an excellent place to stay during ski season and during the summer season as well.

If you search for the Charme  Alexander on the web you are likely to find it listed as the Charme Hotel Alexander Livigno. That's not a mistake. Distances are small in the Livigno area. If you want to do some duty-free shopping in the town, or take one of the chairlifts or cable cars on the other side of the valley, it's only a short distance away.

Wellness Facilities

The Charme Alexander  is a 4-star hotel ( a 5-star hotel according to some guests who have provided reviews to several of the online hotel booking agencies).  As far as wellness facilities are concerned this hotel features a fully-equipped Techo gym, a spa with two heated indoor pools (one of the pools is for children), and Jacuzzis as well. A luxury sauna is yours to enjoy, and if the warmth of the sauna makes you feel sleepy, in addition to feeling completely relaxed, a cold water shock treatment will bring you back to the real world, which is nevertheless a pleasant one. The Charme  Alexander also has a Turkish bath and a massage room.

Staying in a mountain resort is in itself a wonderful experience, but staying in a mountain resort that has all the features you would normally expect in a wellness facility makes that experience even more wonderful. You can spend the day skiing your heart out or shopping your heart out – Livigno is located in a duty-free zone --  and look forward to rewarding your now somewhat tired body in the heated pool, the steam room, or subjecting it to the pleasures of a good massage.

It should be noted that various therapeutic services are also available in the spa area. Not only will the staff in the Wellness hotel Livigno area welcome your visits, they will do their best to pamper you as well. Even the most hale and hearty individuals will profit from being pampered from time to time.

Aqua Grande Wellness Park

There is also a wellness park in the Livigno resort area. It's called the Aquagranda, and as it has hotel facilities it is worth mentioning here. If the focus of your trip is on health and wellness, it may be worth your while to see what the park has to offer, as it claims to be the largest wellness center of its kind in Europe. If you've come to ski, or do some hiking, trekking or mountain biking during the summer season and perhaps do some shopping and partying on the side, staying in a hotel would be your best bet since it's unlikely you've come all the way to Livigno to spend most of your time on a treadmill or sit in a steam room. In that case, the Charme Hotel Alexander has all the spa and wellness facilities you will need.

This Hotel in Livigno with its Spa is an Excellent Choice

You would think that finding a hotel in Livigno with a spa would not be terribly difficult, but there are by most estimates between 150 and 170 hotels in the area. A few have spa facilities, but most do not. Of those that do, there are only a very few that have full-service spas. A hot tub and a place you can go for a massage does not a spa make, although some establishments would have you think otherwise. When searching for a hotel in Livigno with a spa, you might consider basing your decision on two requirements; you want to be staying in a hotel that has excellent accommodations, and you want that hotel to feature a full service spa where you can relax, unwind, and be taken care of – even pampered a bit. How you define excellent and full-serve is up to you, but we believe that if you follow our suggestion, satisfaction is guaranteed.

There are Different Kinds of Luxury

There are a number of spas around the world that are often referred to as luxury spas, and in many cases deservedly so. A luxury spa is not one and the same thing as a fine hotel with   excellent to outstanding spa facilities however. The hotel part of it is important to the traveler as well. The luxury spas that are featured in magazines and travel brochures are most often found in exotic places filled with tropical vegetation and long, sandy beaches. There's a different kind of luxury however and that is the luxury of staying in a mountain retreat, surrounded by beautiful scenery – an Alpine retreat to be exact. Some of these mountain resorts, hotels, and spas are found in scenic surroundings equaled in beauty in only a few other places on this earth. Sitting in a hot tub in a hotel in Livigno with a spa and enjoying the Alpine scenery is an experience no one should be without.

If you’ve started putting together a bucket list, or if it is still too early in life to do that and you simply want to enjoy the experience a hotel in an Alpine setting can provide, a stay in a hotel livigno spa is the answer. To be more specific, plan to make your stay in the Charme Hotel Alexander in Livigno where luxury takes on a new meaning, especially after a full day on the slopes.

Charme Hotel Alexander

The Charme Hotel Alexander is located in Teola, a small village that is a stone's throw away from Livigno proper. Distances are not great here, except when you are up on the slopes, where they are great indeed.  The Charme Hotel Alexander is is usually advertised as being a hotel Livigno spa, but the same is true with almost all of the hotels in the resort area.  Livigno, with its duty-free shopping and central location in the resort area is the center of attraction, which is understandable. The Charme Hotel Alexander is one of the finest hotels, if not the finest, in the valley, at least in terms of what you get for your money, and this hotel has received excellent reviews. The Charme Hotel Alexander has many fine features, including its attractive Alpine architecture, luxury rooms, excellent dining together with a wellness center, spa, and a fitness center. There are two heated pools, one for adults and one for the younger generation, there is a fully equipped gym, and a luxury sauna, complete with a cold water shock to fully awaken you. You can also spend time in the Turkish bath which is located next to the spa area, where a variety of the usual spa services are offered. The word 'luxury' is by no means out of place in this spa facility.

Finding a Hotel in Livigno with a Spa

Finding a hotel in Livigno with a spa shouldn't be all that difficult. There are in fact several establishments in Livigno and the surrounding area that feature spa facilities. A few of these advertise themselves as wellness hotels, mentioning their spa facilities as somewhat as an afterthought.

If you Google “Hotel Livigno Spa”, you will discover that the search is not always going to be a great deal of help. A hotel with a hot tub or a Jacuzzi can claim to feature a spa and end up as a page-one search result. If you ask a travel agent to book you into a hotel in Livigno with a spa, you might get the same result – a nice hotel that features a hot tub and a Jacuzzi. It's the same when your search is for a Livigno mountain resort hotel or a Livigno ski resort hotel with spa. With luck you might end up in a hotel that not only has a hot tub and a Jacuzzi, but an outdoor pool as well, which unfortunately is closed during the ski season.

There is an establishment that is all of these things. It is a hotel in Livigno with a spa and it is also a mountain resort. You can save yourself, and your travel agent, a lot of time and trouble if you simply asked to be booked into the Charme Hotel Alexander. Not only will you be reserving a room in a hotel in Livigno with a spa, you will be booked in to an excellent hotel with one of the finest, if not the finest spa facilities in Livigno, within the Livigno Ski Resort and for that matter the entire Alta Valtellina ski area with its 885 ski runs and 33 ski lifts.

Charme Hotel Alexander is actually located in Teola, a tiny village that is but a stone's throw from Livigno and the town's duty-free shopping. The hotel is also within walking distance of the nearest ski lifts. Most of the hotels in the Livigno and Teola areas share this distinction, but it's always nice to know that when going to and from the nearest lift line you don't have to hike a mile (or a kilometer), or wait 30 minutes for a shuttle bus to take you to where you  want to go.

You can swim or relax in the indoor pool or take advantage of what the full-service spa has to offer. The 4-star Charme Hotel Alexander actually has two indoor pools, but one is reserved for children. You can also spend time relaxing in the Turkish bath, the health club, or in the sauna.

Should you choose to venture outside, which is presumably why you came, you can sharpen or display your skills at skiing (cross-country and alpine), snowboarding, snowmobiling, mountain biking, and golf, depending of course on the season.

Although the focus has been on a hotel in Livigno with a spa, there are times when health and fitness are not on your mind, which is often the case in a fine hotel located in a destination resort area, and you wish to spend some time in the lounge and the bar. You also have access to flat-screen, satellite TV and the Internet in your room.

There are many fine hotels in the Livigno resort area. Many of them have health and fitness facilities of one kind or another, but few have spa facilities worth mentioning. There are some to be found, but if you book into the Charme Hotel Alexander, your search for a hotel in Livigno with a spa will be over, and it won't be long before you will be convinced you made the best possible choice.

Pros and Cons of Renting Ski Apartments in Livigno

If you have decided on the Livigno ski resort as your destination during the ski season, and you will be arriving as a family or as a small party of friends, choosing among the many ski apartments in Livigno that are available often makes a good deal of sense. In addition to apartments, a number of villas and chalets are available as well. Many if not most of the apartments available can accommodate groups of up to six or eight.

Most of these units are available the year around, but when you have skiing in mind you would naturally want to find something in proximity with the lift lines. In Livigno, that is rarely a problem. You can stay in an apartment in the center of town, and still be within walking distance of most of the ski resort's lift lines.

http://www.hotelalexanderlivigno.com/images/hotel-alexander-apartments-bauer-tea-header-image976x229.jpg

Look for One in the Center of Town

In fact, by staying in town you can have the best of both worlds. You'll also be within walking distance of a good number of restaurants, bars, and the duty-free shops that Livigno is noted for. If the land was flat, you could even take a day hike over to Switzerland, but the land is not flat at all. You would have to climb half of the way and ski downhill the other half.

Expensive, But Not For a Group

Apartments tend to cost significantly more than hotel rooms or bed and breakfasts, plus the fact that you have to go out to eat or make your own breakfasts. Some apartments may feature continental breakfasts, but that would be a rarity. You can expect to pay at least $150 per night for an apartment, but the nicer ones tend to charge four or five times that amount. While renting an apartment can make a great deal of sense for a family vacation, the higher-priced units can be out of reach for some families. On the other hand, when a group of friends share an apartment, and everyone pays their fair share, it can be surprisingly affordable.

Renting an apartment as a group can be even more affordable as some ski apartments offer free lift tickets or lift tickets at a significant discount if you choose to stay there. Some even offer discounts on rental equipment and lessons. Even if those discounts are no more than 15 to 20 percent, they still represent a considerable savings. If you plan to book one of the ski apartments in Livigno, it could be to your advantage to see what extras might be included in the deal.

Some Restrictions Apply, But Not Many
As is the case with most apartment rentals, some allow pets and others do not. This is seldom an issue with ski vacationers as they usually have enough to bring along without taking along the pet poodle as well. Most allow children, or in other words are family friendly. A few will require a stay of at least several days, but there are ski apartments that rent out for as few as one or two days. As far as how long you can book an apartment for, about the only issue is whether or not another party has booked reservations for the same apartment in the near future. This can usually be settled during booking time however so it is seldom a problem unless you have your heart set on a particular unit (most often for reasons of nostalgia).

When you book, make certain you will be given detailed information as to what features the apartment has to offer. A fireplace is nice, but even nicer is a kitchen that is well stocked with appliances such as a microwave, toaster, freezer, and of course an Italian coffee making machine. Towels and linens are almost always provided. TV is standard. In Livigno, this would be satellite TV. You might want to inquire about Wi-Fi if you can't bear to be without your laptop or tablet.

Or, you can just book sight unseen, go with the flow, and focus on skiing.

http://www.hotelalexanderlivigno.com/images/insidebanner.jpg

1. Dates of Operation and Lift Access

The ski resort of Livigno will usually operate from late November to early May of each season, and because of its high elevation the resort has very stable snow cover most of the times of operation.  There are 31 chairlifts and gondolas that can carry 47,000 skiers per hour, with access to 110 kilometers of slopes.  There are three separate ski areas in Livigno, Mottolino, Costaccia and Carosello 3000, and all three can be accessed on the same ski pass.

2. Location and Directions to Livigno

Livigno is easily accessible in the winter by car or bus from nearby Italian and Swiss cities.  Roads are open from Milan and Zurich for those connecting via plane or train from other European or international locations.  Some routes require vehicles to carry chains in case of snowfall.  Part of the charm of Livigno is that is isolated and free of the large crowds and high prices of other resorts.

3. Types of Ski Terrain and Elevation

The base elevation of Livigno is 1816 meters and the top elevation is 2950 meters.  The slopes occupy both sides of the valley, offering a unique opportunity to ski with two vantage points and a wide variety of ski terrain.  The valley runs from north to south ensuring that one can enjoy sunshine on the slopes all day long.  The terrain is varied for any ability on over 64 different slopes, with 35% intermediate runs, 48% advance and 17% expert, most of which is free of vegetation.

4. Snowfall and Average Snow Depth

The high altitude location of Livigno brings abundant snowfall and the coverage is excellent most of the season.  Snow depths can range from 1 to 2 meters depending on the month and recent snowfall.  February and March tend to have the best snow depth, while very early and late season may require use of snowmaking to provide adequate cover.  The lack of vegetation on most slopes makes for few exposed obstacles at all elevations, and spring skiing can be excellent.

5. Food and Beverages

One of the attractions of Livigno is the affordable price for après-ski beverages and food available at the many cafes and restaurants in the village.  For those in ski apartments it is possible to self-cater as well, but there are many good choices among the 50 or more restaurants to sample.  Because it is usually possible to ski right down to the village level, you can take lunch and then be right back on the slopes in the afternoon.

6. Cost of Lift Tickets

The most recent season’s lift ticket prices were 43 Euros for adults and 35 Euros for children and seniors.  Afternoon passes are available for 31 Euros and the best value is the six-day pass costing 215 Euros for adults and 148 Euros for children and seniors.  The six-day pass may also include access to several other nearby Italian ski areas to add variety to your ski vacation.  Please inquire for current arrangements on this type of pass.

7. Other Activities

Livigno is renowned for its duty free shopping and even the most die-hard skiers will enjoy perusing the hundreds of shops offering perfumes, electronics and other luxury goods at bargain prices.  Other winter sports are offered as well including cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, snowmobile tours and dogsled rides.

For families, friends or couples that are looking to take the ultimate ski vacation in Livigno, they will find that this Italian village offers a high quality ski experience alongside a vibrant mountain culture.  There are a few aspects of this mountain ski resort that set it apart and make it a unique destination in Europe.  Although it has a feeling of isolation, it can be accessed easily by road and lies only a short distance from the Swiss border.  For skiers, Livigno has everything they are looking for in a winter sports holiday.

http://www.hotelalexanderlivigno.com/images/insidebanner.jpg

Excellent Snow Quality: Because of its high altitude location of almost 3000 meters at the peak, Livigno enjoys exceptional snow quality and depth that puts the slopes ideal condition from early December to April.  Because of this, it is often possible to ski right down into the town of Livigno, a convenient and fun way to return to one’s lodging or have a mid-day meal in the village.  Even if the snow cover is light in early season, Livigno has snowmaking equipment to provide cover for the slopes at lower altitudes, so that at anytime at least 70% of the mountain will have snow cover.

Modern High Speed Gondolas and Chairlifts:  One of the measures of a ski resort is the speed and capacity of the lift network, which can affect how much time a skier waits between runs.  Livigno has both high-speed gondolas and chairlifts that service the terrain that span both sides of the valley, so that more time is spent skiing than sitting on the chairlift.  There are 6 gondolas in addition to many chairlifts and tows, so there is easy access to the acres of prime ski terrain.   This extensive lift network can carry 47,000 skiers per hour to all parts of the mountain.

Terrain Suitable for All Levels of Skiers: The ultimate ski vacation in Livigno will depend on the kind of terrain that is available for your skill level and preference.  With over 115 km of varied terrain, Livigno can give you a vacation that suits anyone’s taste and ability in the sport.  Near the village are a network of beginner slopes that are gentle and well groomed, while at higher elevations more advanced skiers can find the wide-open runs that are famous in the Alps.  For true experts, there are also steep and challenging slopes near the resort’s highest points.  In addition, there are terrain-parks fashioned for snowboarders and freestyle skiers to test and improve their skills.

Après-Ski, Dining and Shopping:  A Livigno Ski Accommodation is not complete without time spent enjoying food, drink and sharing the mountain ambiance that makes great memories.  There are multiple après-ski choices in Livigno at affordable prices, and then you can select from over 100 restaurants to complete your evening.  One of the key attractions in Livigno at any time of year is the duty free shopping opportunity to purchase many types of goods at bargain prices.  As extra incentive, Charme Hotel Alexander offers its guests coupons for discounts in the Livigno Exclusive duty free stores.Imagine a day of skiing followed by a few hours strolling the shops in the village center, where everyone can find something of interest.

Quality Ski Accommodations:  At the end of a long day of skiing, there is nothing better than returning to one’s hotel to relax and reflect on the day’s adventures.  Some skiers prefer simple accommodations while others use their vacation to sample a bit of luxury.  Regardless of taste, the Charme Hotel Alexander presents the best choice for your Livigno Ski Accommodation hotel, offering guests a choice of room types and amenities for any budget.

You will be delighted to return to this chalet style hotel at the end of the day, enjoy a glass of local wine, take a Jacuzzi and relax in your room for a needed rest.  Of course, we offer excellent food choices for you right here in the hotel, so there is no need to go anywhere and you can retire straight to your room to prepare for the next day of skiing.   The mountain views will be waiting to greet you in the morning as you rise to meet another day in this alpine resort, with all the elements for the ultimate ski vacation.
